AguerNo. Fantasy Football Diary week 9

Article by Adam

So after gameweek 8 it seems like people were split into 2 categories. Those who had Aguero and his glut of goals and 25 points and those who didn’t. It did mean that if you had the foresight (or luck) to have made Aguero your captain you were starting off with a cool 50 points before your other 10 players kicked a ball in anger. You should have been in a dominant position.

I however seem to be one of the exceptions to that rule. I didn’t have Aguero however I still managed a very respectable 87 points. Especially when the average was only 55 points (which maybe shows how few people had Aguero) I still managed to profit from Sergio’s prolific finishing with Kevin De Bruyne as captain he managed to get two assists and score a goal of his own getting me 30 points. Lukaku, Vardy, Ayew and Cabaye all chipped in with a goal and Bellerin and Butland kept clean sheets.

FIFA Virus

With the international matches of the last week it seems like the success of gameweek 8 seems a long time ago. With that in mind a lot of FPL players are looking at their teams and can see nothing but a sea of red and orange as the toll of international football strikes down Premier League star after Premier League star. Anyone who flinched and decided to get Aguero in after last week is now looking a little silly as a hamstring injury playing for Argentina looks set to keep him out for up to 8 weeks.

Luckily my team isn’t looking too bad. I had Ayew looking like he might play but at the time of writing his status has been updated to show no injury. Joe Gomez is out but is hardly a victim of FIFA this time. I did have a continued problem with Yaya Toure as he was still listed as probable however I have used some of my bank balance to transfer him out and bring in the inform Alexis Sanchez. I wanted to do this as with Aguero out I wanted to lessen my exposure to Man City players as I feel his absence may have a big impact on their fortunes. However having played only Tuesday night/ Wednesday morning UK time in South America it may be a risk brining in Sanchez after an international week as Wenger may look to protect him, especially against a perceived weaker team in Watford.

At the moment I am planning on keeping De Bruyne as captain after his successes last time out. I think with Silva injured he will need to play a more significant role if they are to remain successful against Bournemouth this week. If it weren’t for Silva’s injury I may have been looking to make Bellerin my captain. He is one of the players with the highest chance creation in the league this season and against Watford, who struggle to score, I expect a clean sheet.
With all my midfielders now available I plan to start Sanchez and put Cabaye on the bench. I will bring Kompany back and place Cathcart on my bench and play all 3 strikers in a 3-4-3.
