So after the combination of illness, a birthday and an exam I have an extensive list of excuses as to why we have managed to make it to the end of week 5 with me only having contributed 2 blog posts. Well I’m back, and with a team 6 points below the game average I am not better than ever.
So what have you missed? Well quite a lot, injuries have not been my friend. After week 3 I quickly lost my patience with my Chelsea focused squad and played my wild card to transport to a more Man City focus.
As part of that I spent £10m on David Silva who provided an assist and then quickly got injured. I was trying to save last weeks substitution to allow me to make two this week and transfer out the misfiring Rooney who had even managed to survive the wildcard cull. But alas Silva was transferred out for game week 5 and in came the disappointing Kevin De Bruyne.
Oh and as part of that wildcard play I now have a much stronger bench than I usually subscribe to. This allowed me to play bench boost in game week 5 which was quite successful however does make being 6 points behind the average even more disappointing.
Looking ahead to game week 6 I have again been plagued by injuries. The shocking broken leg sustained by Luke Shaw in Europe on Tuesday night meant the quick substitution out of one of my most impressive post wild card point scorers. I have brought in Craig Cathcart from Watford. Their defence has been very solid and he is a high point scorer but more importantly he was cheap. I have been able to save some money and put it towards getting Rooney out so it is sitting in my bank account for now while Wayne sits on borrowed time.
Cathcart was going to sit on my bench but as I said, injuries have had their way with me and another casualty of Europe has been Vincent Kompany who has been ruled out of Man City’s match at West Ham this weekend. Rooney who didn’t play in either game week 5 or Man Utd’s midweek lose away at PSV remains doubtful so is on my bench.
I have more confidence in my defensive match ups this week and can easily see my team collecting multiple clean sheets. I also do not have that horrible situation where my attaching and defensive player match ups clash. I have the potential for a big week but I am not anticipating one. I currently have Yaya Toure as my captain because I refuse to captain Ayew or Gomis against my team in Everton, I do not trust Lukaku and am yet to know what to expect from De Bruyne.
I have benched the injured Kompany and doubtful Rooney and unless anymore injuries are announced am not planning on making any more substitutions this week. I don’t want to take a -4 point hit. Let us see if I get any gut feelings and a last minute captain change before the deadline.
